She was named for her Aunt and Great Aunt Cecilia (called Aunt C).
From 'The Eggen Family History' (pgs 73 - 74):
Mabel Claire Eggen is the fourth child and daughter of Olivia Johanna Colwick and Thore Anstensen Eggen. She was born on August 7, 1895, on the family farm south of Neills Creek in the northeast corner of Coryell County, Texas. She was baptized and confirmed in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Norse, Texas. Mabel attended the Bee Hill and Norse schools, Clifton Academy, and Clifton Junior College. She graduated in 1914. She also attended a business school in Dallas, Texas.
In 1924 Mabel moved to Dallas, Texas, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Sears, Roebuck and Company. She lived with her aunt and uncle, the A. B. Amendsons. While living in Dallas, Mabel attended Central Lutheran Church with her aunt and uncle. Her Uncle Alfred arranged a meeting with Arne Theodore Melby who was also attending Central Lutheran Church.
Arne Theodore Melby was born in Leadville, Colorado, on December 10, 1892. He moved to Kansas with his family early in his life. Arne attended school in Jamestown, Kansas, and Kansas A & M College. He moved to Dallas in 1927 where he worked for the Dallas Gas Company for 17 years until he went into business for himself by opening a welding shop in 1944. Arne was a veteran of World War I. The Rev. Allen Nelson married Mabel and Arne in her parents' home in Norse on February 23, 1929. At the time of their marriage it was mandatory for female employees of Sears to quit when they married; therefore, Mabel had to quit her job. They lived in Dallas their entire married life in the home that they bought on Reiger Avenue.
According to the information printed in the church bulletin, Mabel was a pretty, pleasant girl with a serene smile. She was 5 feet 8 inches tall, had red hair, and blue eyes. She was a college graduate, and an accomplished pianist and organist. She was skilled in homemaking crafts, such as needlework. She pieced her first quilt before she was old enough to go to school.
Both Mabel and Arne were members of the Central Lutheran Church in Dallas. Arne died on November 27, 1955. Services were held on November 30, 1955, in Dallas at Central Lutheran Church in Dallas officiated by Rev. Don R. Hamilton, pastor of the church. He was buried in Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
In August 1985 Mabel celebrated her 90th birthday with a party given by her children and grandchildren at Central Lutheran Church with close family and friends attending. At this time in her life she was living in the C. C. Young Memorial Home in Dallas. When Mabel blew out her candles, all 90 of them, the smoke set off the smoke alarm. Everyone had a good laugh.
Mabel passed away on November 24, 1989. Services were held in Central Lutheran Church in Dallas. She was buried beside her husband, Arne, in Grove Hill Memorial Park on November 27, 1989.
Mabel and Arne have two children.
