Melby Family

From Ancestry.com – Norwegian: habitational name from any of about 25 farmsteads in eastern Norway, originally named Meðalbýr in Old Norse, from meðal ‘middle’ + býr ‘farmstead’.

So far, I have traced the Melby line back to my 2nd Great Grandfather, Lars Altsson Melby who was born in Norway and immigrated to the United States.  His parents were Alt Larsson Mellingseter and Berit Larsdt Lauvset, so this is the earliest instance of Melby showing up in my genealogical records.  Lars did have three sisters; Siri, Gjertru, and Randi.

Significant Branch Families: Colwick, Eggen
